JAYMIE GOBEILLE'S E-PORTFOLIO

As I’ve said before throughout my portfolio I was not looking forward to the inquiry project. But long story short I actually really enjoyed researching my topic and creating my own digital essay. I have never done anything like it before which made it interesting. I guess I’ve always known what inquiry was but I’ve never had to actually apply it. When I first thought of my topic, which is how the media effects body image, that’s when I started to get really excited about creating my essay. I’ve always been interested in body image and how it effects people. I have a personal connection to this topic which made me even more invested in it. It definitely hasn’t gotten to some of the stages that I talk about in my essay, but obviously every girl has wished they looked different at some point in their life. Anyways, during the process of research I decided that I didn’t want to take one simple approach to this essay and that I wanted to look at my topic in different perspectives. That’s when I decided that I should go a little further and talk about things caused by negative body image like eating disorders. I thought it would show how serious my topic is and that others might be able to relate to it better that way. I know what eating disorders are but while I was researching them I found out a lot more, like the difference between bulimia and binge eating disorder. I also wanted to look at it through the eyes of the media, which I didn’t find too much information on. I guess a lot of magazines don’t like to come out and say that they don’t like fat people on their covers. I really learned a lot about my topic and I think it shows in my digital essay. Although the process of creating my essay wasn’t always easy, I truly enjoyed putting it all together. I think this experience has caused me to be more inquisitive as a person. There were so many topics I could’ve chosen to write about for this essay and I’ve actually found myself randomly researching them for fun… nerdy, I know. Overall I am happy with the way my digital essay turned out and I’m glad I was able to gain more knowledge of my topic as well as inquiry in general.
